2015 Naish Pivot Review

2015 Naish Pivot – Free ride/wave beginner-advanced sizes 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14

Recently a myself and the Ocean Addicts crew took a trip to Maui the home of big airs, big surf and the motherland of Naish International for the international dealer meet to check out all of the new gear! After hearing about this new kite from Naish we became really intrigued in this ‘pivot’. The Pivot is the kite that is designed to suit the free-ride/wave crew and aimed at drifting, boosting, hang time, big wind range, easy relaunch and just an all round easy kite to ride. After all that we had hard about this amazing new kite, we really wanted to put this kite throughout its paces to see where we could fault it. After days of riding in Maui and back here in Aus, in winds from 13 – 30 knots, we broke down our review into its properties and really tried to find the good and the bad in the kite.

DRIFT

‘Drift’ seems to be the new trend these days with marketing a kite to appeal to the wave market and after riding lots of kite that supposedly ‘drift’ and being disappointed we weren’t holding our breath on this one. So we went about doing everything possible to make this kite over-fly, back-stall or fall out of the sky and in the right conditions this is really really difficult do, making for one wave kite that really does have AMAZING drift! When unhooking or even riding hooked in and riding downwind on a wave the kite really seems to sit off the wave and let you ride at it without causing you any grief at all.

BOOST & HANGTIME

When kitesurfing in Maui, regardless of the kite that you’re on, you always seem to feel like you’re floating in the air higher than you’ve ever been before.  This was the same when riding the pivot. You would boost high, have lots of hangtime but the main thing was… It was really really easy to work out the timing, if you go it a little bit wrong you wouldn’t get ripped off your board, it was super forgiving! This became even more apparent when riding the kite back here Australia in lighter winds. We were really surprised at just how easy this kite was to get dialed in! After 10 seconds of flying the kite you feel like your ready to throw down trick that you’ve only ever dreamed of doing!

WIND RANGE

With the versatile shape of the Pivot, you would expect that it has a good wind range, but we were blown away with how good it really is! From 14 knots with a current right up to almost 30 knots is unheard of… But that’s what we did with the one 10m pivot! This kite going to make it heaps easier for a lot of crew to move close to getting away with a 1 kite quiver!

RELAUNCH

We can not write a review about the pivot without mentioning the relaunch. We tried time and time again to get this kite in a tangled mess but no matter what we did, we could not not relaunch the kite! It would have to be one of the easiest kites if not the easiest to relaunch that we have ever flown!!

SUMMARY

We all agreed this kite was the missing link for Naish, as the name pivot states it’s turning and stability through its turns is unmatched with a tight turning axis and a new load distribution system throughout the canopy, the kite no longer twists making for a crisp, effortless turning feel. Add this with the 3 strut and super lightweight design, drifting is its second nature.

The Naish pivot comes complete with the new universal bar system which is lighter and softer on the hands. It’s power is very versatile with great lively bar feel and power when required, this means adapting to a kite like the pivot really easy to do. The 2015 Naish Pivot is the game changer!
